This park on Palawan features a striking limestone karst landscape with an underground river. UNESCO notes that the river emerges directly into the sea and that its lower reaches are tidal.
History
History
The area holds a full mountain-to-sea ecosystem and some of Asia's most important forests. Its caves and underground river were carved by water dissolving limestone over a very long time, leaving great chambers and formations.
People & Culture
People & Culture
Palawan is home to local communities and several Indigenous peoples who depend on forest and sea. For us, this underground river shows natural heritage and people's lives connected through water, from mountain source to coast.
Living Heritage
Living Heritage
Visitors enter the underground river in paddle boats guided by local people. Tourism income supports the community, while daily visitor limits help protect the cave and the bats that live inside.
