The Mount Hamiguitan range runs north–south along the Pujada Peninsula in south-eastern Mindanao, rising from 75 to 1,637 metres above sea level. UNESCO notes it protects threatened and endemic plants and animals, eight of which are found only on Mount Hamiguitan.

Different altitudes create a range of land and water habitats. One striking feature is a pygmy forest on mineral-rich soil, where old trees grow only a few metres tall. The sanctuary is also home to the Philippine eagle and the Philippine cockatoo.
